Disappearance of Esther Dingley
Esther Dingley is a British woman who disappeared while hiking in the Pyrenees in November 2020.
Background: Esther, who was originally from Durham, and her partner Dan Colegate had hiked around Europe since 2014, recording their experiences in a blog. They started their journey after Colegate nearly died during surgery. They had been profiled by the BBC in an article published on 22 November 2020.
Disappearance: She had been travelling on a month-long solo trip while her partner stayed in Gascony. She had last contacted him via WhatsApp on 22 November 2020 while on top of Pic de Sauvegarde. The previous day she had walked from Benasque in Spain and had planned to spend the night in Refuge VĂ©nasque in France. She was reported missing on 25 November, the day she was due to return from her solo trip. The Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne confirmed that they were searching for her. Search teams and a helicopter were deployed to search for her. Her partner has gone to Luchon to take part in the search for her. A witness has claimed to have seen someone sleeping in the camper van belonging to Esther Dingley ten days after she disappeared. In early December authorities announced that the search for her had halted due to heavy snow. Her family is being suported by LBT Global, formerly known as the Lucy Blackman Trust.
