New England Coffee
New England Coffee is New England’s largest independent specialty coffee roaster. Founded in 1916 by Menelaos and George Kaloyanides Boston, Massachusetts, the business was led by four generations of the Kaloyanides family, first by Menalos Kaloyanides and subsequently by Steven, James M. and James B. Kaloyanides. New England Coffee was voted Massachusetts family business of the year in 2007.
History: In 1916 Greek immigrant brothers Menelaos & George Kaloyanides started the New England Tea & Coffee Company. Originally located in a building at the corner of Milk and Broad Streets in Boston, hand-roasted coffee was delivered by horse and wagon. The first truck was purchased in 1918 and soon after other family members started to join the business. In 1966, after outgrowing several homes in succession, New England Coffee finally settled into their present location at 100 Charles Street in Malden, Massachusetts. Today, New England Coffee occupies five buildings and has hugely expanded their manufacturing and packaging capabilities. Four generations of the Kaloyanides family have led the business since its inception; Menelaos Kaloyanides from 1916 to 1966, Stephen Kaloyanides from 1966 to 1996, James M. Kaloyanides from 1996 to 2013 and James B Kaloyanides from 2013 to 2016. Basil "Lucky" Kaloyanides, father of James M. Kaloyanides and grandfather of James B. Kaloyanides was inducted to the Massachusetts Restaurant Association Hall of Fame and was a well known and respected representative of the company. New England Coffee only uses 100% Arabica beans in all of their products.
