The Roasterie

The Roasterie is a specialty coffee company based in Kansas City, Missouri. History: Danny O’Neill started The Roasterie, Inc. in the basement of his home in Brookside, a neighborhood in Kansas City, on Nov. 4, 1993. He traveled and learned about coffee from around the world before beginning his own coffee company. The Roasterie opened its first cafe in October 2005 in the Kansas City Brookside neighborhood A second cafe location was opened in Leawood, Kansas, in October 2010. At the Best of Panama Cupping Event in 2004, The Roasterie received a high score of 95.6 from the international coffee cuppers jury. They set what some deemed a world record price for green coffee by purchasing it for $21.00 per pound. This was paid by the American specialty roasters headed by Danny O’Neill, the Roasterie president. During 2010, seven of The Roasterie’s coffees received a ranking of 90 or higher on CoffeeReview.com, which is the premier international coffee-buying guide. Also in 2010, The Roasterie was named one of the Top 10 Small Businesses by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. Marketing: The Kansas City agency, Two West Inc., helped The Roasterie with its rebranding in 2010. The company’s new tag line is: “Live Life on the Rim!” New imagery includes a Douglas DC-3 airplane promotes The Roasterie’s belief of air-roasted coffee. The aviation imagery also makes reference to seeking out the best coffee from anywhere in the world and refers to Kansas City’s aviation history. The plane prototype is located at the city’s Airline History Museum. At the beginning of the 2010, The Roasterie Café in Brookside completed a remodel which included an additional 150 square feet (14 m2) of seating space, a DC-3 mural, and architectural changes to order to improve customer flow. In 2012, architectural changes to the factory facility in the West side of Kansas City, Missouri included installing a 1943 DC-3 on a large girder structure as a design element.
