I work as an author. My mom says you can't support yourself by doing that. Maybe as your royalties might not be enough but after a while maybe. It's a flexible enough job to work from home and can help cut costs of child care. I worked as a volunteer in a daycare before. I've seen a mom who worked a freelance job and so she had times where she'd have her kid and other times the kid was in the daycare.
