2020 Nakhon Ratchasima shooting

The 2020 Nakhon Ratchasima shooting occurred on 8 February 2020. A soldier of the Royal Thai Army shot dead at least 20 people in the city of Nakhon Ratchasima, informally known as Korat. He shot and killed a commander and two others at the Surathamphithak Camp (ค่ายสุรธรรมพิทักษ์) he was stationed before stealing a Humvee and opening fire on civilians inside and around the mall called Terminal 21 Korat (เทอร์มินอล 21 โคราช), killing at least 17 people. He fired at a cooking gas cylinder at the mall, causing it to explode. After that he took several mallgoers hostage. Shootings- Surathampithak army camp: The shooter, 32-year-old Sergeant Major Jakrapanth Thomma (จักรพันธ์ ถมมา), stole weapons at the army camp. There, he killed his commander, a soldier and a civilian, before fleeing in a stolen Humvee. Terminal 21 Korat mall: After he escaped with a stolen military vehicle, the shooter opened fire at people in the streets, wounding at least two police officers and two civilians. A shooting at a Buddhist temple was also reported. He then arrived at a shopping mall, where he left his vehicle and shot at several people before detonating a cooking gas cylinder. At least 14 civilians were killed in the shooting. He then entered the mall and took 16 hostages on the fourth floor inside. Police officers and soldiers stormed the mall and asked the gunman to surrender, but the attacker opened fire on them. The shooter remained inside for several hours, during which his mother was brought to the scene by authorities to try to convince him to surrender.
